Le Scouarnec trial: behind the “ordinary” father, the sexual predator

HEARING REPORT - The life of the Le Scouarnec family, while seemingly ordinary, was marked by intra-family sexual violence over several generations.
With his ex-wife Marie-France, Joël Le Scouarnec , a former surgeon now on trial in Vannes for sexual assault and aggravated rape of 299 patients, had three sons, born between 1980 and 1987. All five of them lived a family life that the youngest of their children described at the start of the hearing as "normal" , "ordinary" . However, nothing that was mentioned at the bar of the Morbihan criminal court on Tuesday 25 February was "ordinary" .
Today aged 38 and 42, two of the Le Scouarnec sons spoke to the audience about a "completely happy childhood" . "I didn't lack anything. I have very fond memories of my father. My mother was more present, because she took 100% care of our education, but I was also close to my father, I had a fairly classic father-son bond with him" , recalls the youngest.
